Scolton Country Cottages accessibility statement
Introduction
Since 1998, Scolton Country Cottages has been taking steps to improve the 'accessibility' of its cottages, including changing policies, practices and procedures; providing aids and equipment to facilitate access.
Where there is a physical feature that makes it difficult to access or use a cottage, every effort is made to remove, alter or avoid that feature. Subject to the physical constraints or limitations arising from either making changes to cottages created prior to 1998 from traditional stone and slate barns (non-domestic dwellings).
In preparing this 'accessibility statement' we aim to identify physical features that may make access to, and/or use of, Scolton Country Cottages either difficult (or impossible) for guests with special needs.
This 'statement' was produced in December 2007 and will be updated as and when required.
General
- Scolton is located 4 miles from the town of Haverfordwest.
- Wheelchair hire services are available In Haverfordwest.
- There is a main line railway station at Haverfordwest.
- Scolton has no bus services but good taxi services are available.
- In view of the distance to the nearest railway station and no bus services, Scolton is not suitable for guests without a car or similar transport.
Access
Scolton Country Cottages were converted in 1995 from traditional stone and slate barns. Because all the cottages were created from non-domestic built dwellings there are some 'access' issues. However, as and when we undertake further developments, re-decoration, re-fitting or purchase new provisions and equipment, we will do what we can (subject to physical restrictions that are either impossible to overcome or are financially beyond our resources) to meet the needs of guests with special needs.
Vehicle access
All ten cottages at Scolton allow vehicles to park at entrance doors to unload luggage. Car parking is available within 15 metres. Guests with walking difficulty may park outside their cottage.

Coach House Cottage:

Barn & Stable Cottages:

- Three bedrooms and bathroom on upper floor.

- Bedrooms – One has double bed, one has two single beds and the third room one single bed.

Granary Cottage:

Dairy cottage:
- Entrance – Door threshold only but two small steps down from footpath. Doorway 770mm wide .Access not from courtyard but from garden at rear.

- One bedroom and bathroom on upper floor.
- Stairs to upper floor 13 straight steps. Handrail to left.
- Bathroom entrance door 710mm. Bath height 470mm with flexible shower .Toilet height 435mm.
- Bedroom – One double bed plus extra chair bed.
- Non-feather pillows and duvets with poly-cotton covers and sheets

Laundry Room:
- Step 150mm door 750mm.
- Commercial size washing machines and tumble drier at high level (launderette type) coin operated.
- Standard size sink unit with drainer. Worktops height 900mm.Chest Freezer 850mm height.
Leisure Building:
- Built in 2002 so complies with current building regulations for access.
- Ramp access for wheelchairs on both doors to pool hall.
- Unisex disabled toilet in pool building.
- Please note that all pool users must be able to independently access pool. Entry handrails are in place.
Assistance Aids:
- Scolton Country Cottages store access aids for customers use such as wheelchair ramps.
- Please contact owners to discuss any specific access requirements. We will do our best to assist if possible.
Assistance Dogs:
Assistance dogs are welcome, but we do ask that they not be allowed on the furniture and because Scolton’s fields are used to graze sheep and cattle that they are appropriately controlled when outside.
Our Commitment and Future Development:
Scolton Country Cottages continues to improve and alter existing facilities to accommodate use by disabled customers.
The next stage of building development will be to erect two single-storey cottages with full disabled access facilities. We will endevour to provide these cottages as soon as possible.
